Inspiring RHS Launch

The Derby’s year 8 student representatives in the Royal Horticultural Challenge relished the opportunity to work as a team as they embarked on the first step of the competition at The Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester. Naming themselves ‘Nature Ninjas’ they listened intently to guest speaker, award winning Garden Designer, Pip Probert.

Engaging well with Mentor Anne Brown from Myerscough College they did the ‘Zombie Challenge’, toured the Whitworth Garden, did a scientific activity identifying different types of beans and expressed themselves creatively designing flower shapes using a variety of materials.

Brimming with ideas they are keen to get started, looking forward to the final on 8th December when they will present a model of their themed school garden, be questioned by expert judges on their detailed report and showcase their journey from their initial ideas to their completed concept.
