The Aspirational Leadership Spirit Group embraced the residential at Colomendy in Wales with enthusiasm and vigour. Their three-day stay involved them undertaking a variety of challenges designed to engender empathy, raise aspirations, build confidence and teamwork, ultimately helping to mold them into a future generation of leaders.
The nightline tested trust and communication skills, as the blindfolded students guided each other thorough a number of obstacles. The Leap of Faith was a huge test of courage as they leaped off a platform to touch a ball relying only on the safety rope to catch them. Other highlights included Jacobs Ladder that relied on immense teamwork, negotiating logs suspended high in the air, daring duels in the fencing, negotiating tight spaces in the caving and battling hard to support their team members armed with laser guns.
Several members stood out as young people whose character, ability and concern for others showed they have superb qualities and transferable skills.
The residential was a successful partnership as Kingswood, Manchester University, Bury Youth Service and The Derby staff worked together to support the students. The programme was funded by Greater Manchester Higher. Without their amazing support the event would not have been possible.
