The venue may have changed but the event was as exciting as ever. The Annual Stock Market Challenge in The University of Manchester’s Great Hall, in the Sackville Street Building, featured 22 Schools competing for the top prize.
Our Year 10 team bought and sold shares and Euros in an effort to maximise their profits.
The event was an amazing interactive experience. Screens use news bulletins to inform the teams, each simulated day of events and activities, which will affect share prices and the value of the Euro. A newspaper was also issued to the teams each day.
A prize was awarded for the team’s report, which explained the rationale for buying and selling the investments. The overall prize was given to the team that achieved the portfolio of highest value.
With each simulated day lasting 30 minutes in real time you can imagine how intense the trading was! The highly charged day was immensely appreciated by the students. Unfortunately our team could not break into the top three spots, despite a fully focused effort.
This is a really unique opportunity that enhances their understanding of teamwork, communication and problem solving skills.
