Derby year 11 students enjoyed a huge, action packed day at Salford Quays.
The day began at the Landings in Media City with a lively question and answer session involving three experts who were employed in the Media Industry. Simon, a BBC 6 Music Radio Producer, Steve, who does voice-overs, podcasts and audio adverts for Kalua and Rachel, co-host of the Breakfast Show at Capital Radio. They all offered superb insights into their Industry telling their own personal stories of how motivation, huge enthusiasm for their chosen careers and determination, drove them to succeed and end up doing jobs they love. This was inspirational for all our students.
The next stop was Imperial War Museum North were the students immersed themselves in the audio and visual displays, also visiting the ‘Lest We Forget’ exhibition. This had a powerful effect on the students and will enhance their understanding of history and the poetry they are studying.
In the afternoon the students were awestruck with the amazing performance of Macbeth in the grand setting of the Lowry Theatre. The performance, set in a dystopian future, was a vivid and unforgettable experience. These events not only prepare students superbly for their GCSE’s they enable them to empathise and be emotionally effected by their experiences.
The students had a fantastic time, in a day that had encapsulated so many aspects of the curriculum!
