Mock Exam TimeTable

Friday 5th December sees the start of the Year 11 Mock Exams. Here is some information about the Mocks.

Why do we do them? The results are passed on to colleges during your application process and to employers when your trying to get part-time jobs, before your real results are realised.
Do I need to revise? Yes. You must do your best, to give yourself a chance at knowing exactly how well you are doing and how much work you need to do in the New Year.
What if I fail my Mocks? Does it mean I'll fail my proper GCSE's? No it doesn't mean you'll fail your GCSE's. However, it does mean that you must find out from your teacher what you did wrong and how you can improve it. Just forgetting the mocks and thinking "I'll do it right in the summer, may not work as you want it to.
Where can I get help? GCSE Bitesize and SAMLEARNING have helpful hints, but most importantly you must speak to your subject teacher or the Head of Department.

6 Top Tips to beat exam stress

Manage your studying
Don't go mad and lock yourself in with your books 24 hours a day. Two to three hours is the maximum amount of time you can study before you stop really absorbing what you read. So, break up periods of work with periods of relaxation. And reward yourself for your hard work with small treats. Like listening to your favourite track and then move onto a different topic.

Eat properly
Feed your head with healthy foods! Avoid very rich or spicy foods, and plan a celebration for when the exams are done. Something to look forward to at the end makes everything else seem worth while. Vitamin supplements might be worth trying, but be careful and take advice from parents or doctor before even thinking about it.
Good sleep is vital
Exam stress sometimes makes sleeping difficult. So, set a definite time to go to bed and stick to it. A period of gentle music, a light snack or a glass of milk and a warm bath will help you relax before bed.

Keep busy
Keeping busy when you're not studying stops you dwelling on exam worries. Sport and other activities, such as dancing, art and cooking, can make you feel more relaxed, as well as boosting confidence. So, take regular breaks out of your studies to relax in this way. Make sure you keep the right mix though, too much other activities will reduce the amount of revising you are able to do. (2 to 3 hours maximum revision).

Be nice to yourself
Self-affirmation works wonders! You may feel silly but tell yourself that you are great, you can do it, and generally psyche yourself up to feeling that you will come top. Why do you think athletes do it before a match? "Hey, your Lookin' Good !!!" Sounds silly, but it can help.

Failure is not the end
Try to remember that although you want to do well, failing is not the end of your chances. Many of the world's most successful men and women survived many failures. If it really matters to you, you can always resit. The first successful moon landing was not achieved at the first attempt.
