The Derby High School is an 11-16 co-educational comprehensive with approximately 960 students on roll. In September 2003 the school became the first Science and Arts Specialist School in the country.
The Derby High School is part of the Ogden family of schools supported by The Ogden Trust. We have strong links with industry and have a special relationship with O2 in Bury through the ‘Adopt a School’ scheme.

The school has been awarded Sportsmark and Artsmark awards, is part of the Youth Sports Co-ordinator scheme and is a Pathfinder School in Enterprise Learning.

The Derby High’s School Day

      Mornings        8.49am to 12.30pm

     (Break is         11.15am to 11.30am)

     Afternoons      1.25pm to 3.30pm

The school closes early at 2.30pm on one Wednesday per fortnight to allow for staff training, reflecting our policy of continuous improvement of teaching and learning.
The Derby High provides its students with the full 25 hours of education recommended by the Government complemented by homework and extra-curricular activities.

Transport, Accommodation and Facilities

The school is situated on a single site off Radcliffe Road, Bury. There are special bus services to and from the school for pupils from the Walmersley Road and Ainsworth Road areas, and there are a number of regular bus services running close to the school that are convenient for many parts of the Borough.

Accommodation

With the sole exception of a music room, the main three-storey building contains all the classrooms that are used for teaching purposes. Pupils do not have to leave the building between lessons and comparatively little time is spent moving from one class to another. The accommodation includes a large hall, used regularly for assemblies, a library, two well equipped gymnasia, a Fitness Centre, seven Science laboratories and specialist rooms for Information Technology, Graphics, Resistant Materials, Food Technology, Business Studies, Art, Music and Drama.

The school grounds are especially attractive and contain very extensive playing fields and also tennis and netball courts. Older pupils have use of nearby sports hall facilities during games lessons.
The school has its own kitchen where lunches are prepared on-site providing a large choice of meals that are sold on a cash cafeteria basis.
All students remain in school during the lunch hour with the exception of a small number who go home for lunch.
