Patron: The Rt. Hon The Earl of Derby DL The Derby High School is an 11-16 co-educational comprehensive with approximately 960
students on roll.
In September 2003 the school became the first Science and Arts Specialist School in the
country.
The school has been awarded Sportsmark and Artsmark awards, is part of the Youth Sports
Co-ordinator scheme and is a Pathfinder School in Enterprise Learning. The Derby High’s School Day The school closes early at 2.30pm on one Wednesday per fortnight to allow for staff
training, reflecting our policy of continuous improvement of teaching and learning.
Transport, Accommodation and Facilities The school is situated on a single site off Radcliffe Road, Bury. There are special bus services to and from the school for pupils from the Walmersley Road and Ainsworth Road areas, and there are a number of regular bus services running close to the school that are convenient for many parts of the Borough. Accommodation With the sole exception of a music room, the main three-storey building contains all the classrooms that are used for teaching purposes. Pupils do not have to leave the building between lessons and comparatively little time is spent moving from one class to another. The accommodation includes a large hall, used regularly for assemblies, a library, two well equipped gymnasia, a Fitness Centre, seven Science laboratories and specialist rooms for Information Technology, Graphics, Resistant Materials, Food Technology, Business Studies, Art, Music and Drama. The school grounds are especially attractive and contain very extensive playing fields
and also tennis and netball courts.
Older pupils have use of nearby sports hall facilities during games lessons.
