French
What your child will learn in French:
How you can help your child in Key Stage Three:
- Ask your child to tell you what topic and which words they have been learning in class.
- Check the completion of your child’s French home learning booklet.
- Turn the audio of a cartoon you are familiar with on Netflix into French and see how much you can understand together.
- Set up a Duolingo account for you and your child and learning French together.
- Get a novel in English from a French-speaking author from the library and read it with your child to help them engage in French culture.
How you can help your child in Key Stage Four (AQA):
- Encourage your child to watch Easy French and Coffee Break Languages videos on Youtube to expand their authentic vocabulary.
- Check the completion of your child’s French home learning booklet.
- As your child to recite back to you the latest speaking assessment answer they have written. Get them to tell you in English what it means.
- Ask your child about their knowledge gaps and then ensure your child is attending revision sessions.
- Get your child a mini-whiteboard and a whiteboard pen, so they can practise speed-writing answers to questions independently.
