Behaviour & Expectations

We expect all students to uphold our values in school, in the community, and when travelling to and from school.

Key Expectations:

  • Be polite to staff, visitors, and peers.

  • Be punctual to school and lessons.

  • Mobile phones must be switched off and out of sight during the school day.

  • Treat toilets, corridors, and dining areas with respect.

  • Bullying of any kind will not be tolerated.

Consequences:

  • Positive behaviour leads to rewards, certificates, and opportunities.

  • Poor behaviour may result in detentions, time in Reflect, internal exclusion, or in serious cases, suspension.

Health & Wellbeing

Dirty air is a major cause of ill health, and children with asthma are particularly vulnerable. We are supporting the Greater Manchester Clean Air Campaign.

  • Dirty air can trigger severe asthma attacks.

  • Air pollution is the biggest environmental risk to public health in the UK.

Getting Here

The Derby High School’s central location makes it ideally situated for travel from any part of Bury, Radcliffe, Little Lever and even further afield.

Before traveling to and from school it is important to plan-ahead and consider different options. If you can, please consider whether your child can walk or cycle to school – it can be a safe and healthy way to make shorter trips. With new cycling and walking routes popping up across Bury, it is safer and easier than ever to get about on foot or by bike.

Cycling | TfGM Bee Active| Greater Manchester Moving

If you do need to drive, please
do not drive onto the school site, and park well away from the school crossing points and driveway to ensure we can keep our students and staff safe. We would also ask that you are considerate of our residential neighbours and avoid parking in any residential car parking or blocking any access
Numerous bus routes pass right in front of the school gates or 200 yards away on Manchester/Bury Road.

There are lots of buses which travel to the Bury Interchange. Many of our pupils walk to and from the Interchange daily (approx. 12 minutes).

If you are aged 11-16 you need an igo pass to pay the concessionary fare on buses in Greater Manchester:
