Thank you for choosing The Derby High School and congratulations on securing your child’s place!
We are thrilled to welcome our new Year 7 students and their families to our community and look forward to working together to ensure a smooth and positive start in September 2026.
Our dedicated Transition Team works closely with primary schools to make sure every child feels confident and excited about joining The Derby. Throughout the summer term, students and families will have the opportunity to visit, meet key staff, and experience life at our school.
POSTPONED TRANSITON EVENING FROM THURSDAY 25TH JUNE TO THURSDAY 2ND JULY
Message for the Parents and Carers of new year 7 (Sept 2026) ,
Due to the forecast of exceptionally high temperatures Thursday 25th June in the afternoon and evening (expected to reach 30°c+, with temperatures still around 31°c at 6:00pm) , we have taken the decision to postpone our Year 6 Transition Evening in the interests of the comfort and wellbeing of our families, pupils and staff.
The parent/carer event (due to take place on Thursday 25th June) has been rescheduled for Thursday 2nd July, and will take place at the same time as originally planned.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE TRANSITION DAY FOR YOUR CHILD TAKES PLACE AS NORMAL ON THURSDAY 25TH JUNE

| Information Evening (parents & carers) | Thursday 2 July 2026 – 6.00 pm | An opportunity to hear from senior staff, ask questions and receive key information about the start of Year 7. |
Further details, including timings and arrangements for the day, will be sent to families closer to the time.

Our Transition Process

A member of the Transition Team visits each feeder primary school to meet new students and their teachers.

Students joining from smaller schools are invited to an extra “getting to know you” session at Derby.

Families are encouraged to attend both the Induction Day and Information Evening to help ensure a confident start.
