School Uniform
At The Derby High School, our uniform reflects pride, equality and high standards. We expect all students to wear it smartly and consistently.

Blazer
Black blazer with The Derby High School badge.
Alternatively, a badge can be purchased from Macron and sewn onto a plain black blazer.

White shirt and school tie.
Students joining from September 2024 will receive their tie on the first day and do not need to purchase one.
Trousers
Plain black trousers that are full length and not skintight, cropped, lycra or denim.
Leggings are not permitted.
Skirt
As an alternative to trousers, a school skirt with The Derby High School logo may be worn.
Skirts must be purchased from the official uniform suppliers.
Pullover
Jumper (optional item) - if worn - plain black V-neck jumper with no logos or prints - no thick, bulky, or textured styles (e.g. cable-knit, chunky knit, or oversized designs).
Outdoor Coat
A practical outdoor coat or anorak may be worn.
Fashion items such as leather or denim jackets, hooded tops, sweatshirts, bandanas or baseball caps are not permitted.
Outdoor clothing must not be worn inside the school building.
Shoes
Plain black, practical leather shoes (not canvas, pumps, trainers or sports shoes).
Shoes should be sturdy and suitable for daily wear. No logos or brightly coloured laces.
High heels, open toes, slip-ons or boots above the ankle are not permitted with the skirt option.
Tights and Socks
Plain black tights, or plain white or black socks between ankle and knee length.
No patterned tights or socks.
Jewellery
No jewellery is allowed apart from a wristwatch.
Smart watches are not permitted.
Piercings
No piercings are permitted — including ears, tongue, face or any other visible area.
Clear piercings are also not allowed.
Make-up and Nails
Make-up, nail varnish, gel nails, false nails and false eyelashes are not permitted.
Items of makeup are ‘banned items’. This means that makeup related items confiscated by school will not be returned.
Hairstyles
Extreme hairstyles or unnatural colours are not permitted, including dyed extensions or weaves.
Fully shaven heads, shaved patterns or lines in hair or eyebrows are not allowed.
Religious Head Coverings
The school recognises and respects the importance of religious dress. Students may wear religious head coverings, including turbans, kippahs, hijabs, and other faith-based head coverings, as an expression of their faith.
Religious head coverings should:
• be plain and consistent with the school uniform colours (black or navy blue), unless a particular style or colour is required for religious observance
• be worn securely and appropriately for the school day
• be practical and suitable for learning and participation in all school activities
To support a smart and consistent uniform, religious head coverings should be worn in a way that complements rather than replaces the school uniform. Required uniform items, including blazers, shirts, and ties, should remain visible and be worn correctly unless otherwise directed by staff.
For health and safety reasons, religious head coverings should also be suitable in size and length so that they do not create risks during movement around the school site or interfere with practical activities and learning.
All students are expected to follow the school’s wider uniform and jewellery expectations. Religious head coverings must not be used in a way that prevents the school’s uniform or jewellery expectations from being met.
Where there are questions regarding suitable styles or adjustments, the school will work sensitively and respectfully with students and families to ensure that religious requirements are supported while maintaining the school’s uniform standards.
Blazers can also be purchased from supermarkets or department stores (badges are available to purchase from school).
Blazers and ties can be purchased from both Pretty Little Things and Macron.
Reminder: The FGRS Community Hub based at Bury Football Club will take donations of old school uniform. Second hand uniform can also be found here.
