Rewards & Recognition
At the Derby High School we run a rewards system called Bars and Stars which encourages students to achieve as many award points as possible throughout the year. Students receive reward points which are each connected to the 7Rs. There are a number of milestones which students must reach; at each milestone they will receive a school badge starting with Bronze and working up to Platinum by the end of the year. Each badge indicates the year which each badge was received.
We ask that all students look after their bar badges as they are exchanged throughout the year for the next badge. Star badges are rewarded for more specific achievements such as ‘Most Improved Behaviour’ and ‘Most Improved Attendance’. There are termly assemblies to celebrate and reward student achievement.
Rewards
There are a number of other reward events throughout the year, including our annual Awards Evening for our past year 11 students and our end of year Prize Giving events.
We also host a number of Headteacher Brunch mornings for those students who have received the top awards.
There are opportunities for all our students to be rewarded for their efforts in school. Other rewards include annual rewards trips, termly cinema and bowling trips, front of the dinner queue passes and Star or The Week awards. Each week five students will receive a hot chocolate or iced drink for their efforts. At the end of each term students receiving the highest rewards are invited to celebrate with a social event and ice cream.
Teachers will frequently hand out postcards to recognise students’ efforts and the annual Headteacher’s Golden Ticket competition allows one lucky student in each year group to receive a special prize. Every member of staff nominates one student for the golden ticket award.
Each week staff will nominate a student who they feel has made a difference or inspired them. Each student will receive a postcard home and will be entered into a draw to win a free hot chocolate or iced drink.
