R-Time (Personal Development)
At The Derby High School, our R-Time curriculum is relevant, meaningful and designed to help students become healthy, independent and responsible members of society — both now and in later life.
R-Time builds confidence, encourages safe risk-taking, and deepens understanding of a wide range of personal, social and emotional topics. Content is well-planned and sequenced throughout Key Stages 3 and 4, while remaining flexible enough to respond to local, national and global issues as they arise.
Our programme promotes active involvement in family, school, social, economic and civic life. Students revisit three core themes each year to ensure depth, progression and reflection:

At primary level, the same statutory requirements apply, with content delivered at an age-appropriate level.

Relationships Education: Focuses on the building blocks and characteristics of positive relationships — friendships, family life, and respectful interaction with others.

Health Education: Emphasises physical health, mental wellbeing, and understanding that mental health is a normal and essential part of daily life.
Post-16 Pathways (KS5)
Key Stage 5 represents the final opportunity to consolidate the skills and strategies developed through PSHE education. Students deepen their competence, resilience and understanding to prepare for independent living, further education, and employment.
Careers Education, Information and Guidance (CEIAG)
The Derby High School has a stable and comprehensive CEIAG programme delivered through R-Time. Careers education supports students throughout each stage of their learning journey, helping them see the relevance of their studies and preparing them for meaningful careers and future success.
