Inspired to Make a Difference

Pupils at The Derby High School are ‘inspired to make a difference’ (Ofsted 2023).

It is a huge privilege to be the Headteacher of The Derby High School. This is a place where all are ambitious for our young people and dedicated to providing them with opportunities like no other. We deliver exceptional curriculum and enrichment experiences with high quality teaching and learning in and beyond the classroom. We build meaningful relationships celebrating student achievements and there is an incredible sense of belonging and loyalty to our school. We offer work-based encounters,  leadership roles and active citizenship within the community developing aspirations, character and a solid moral compass. Academic accomplishments are year-on-year the highest in Bury as measured by the exceptional progress made. Our students leave us happy, well-rounded and prepared for future success with memories that will last a lifetime.

In 2024 we received a national Secondary School of the Year Award acknowledging we are a school that makes a difference. We truly value our work with parents/carers, alumni, stakeholders and communities (locally, nationally and internationally) recognising the benefits this also brings to our young people. The Derby High School is truly a unique and special place and I am passionately committed to ensuring we continue to grow from strength to strength.

You are warmly welcome to visit and see our wonderful school for yourselves.

Ms C H Hubert, Headteacher

Behind the Curtain at The Met Theatre 🎭🔧 A group of our tech-enthusiastic students had the incredible opportunity to go behind the scenes at The Met Theatre this week. Led by the theatre’s expert staff, students were given an in-depth tour of the technical side of live performance—from lighting and AV to sound engineering and special effects. The group explored everything from smoke machines to stage lighting rigs and even took part in a live sound check—complete with a chance to try out the drums! It was an eye-opening experience into the technical world that keeps theatre productions running smoothly. Huge thanks to the team at The Met for inspiring the next generation of creative technicians!
