Welcome to The Derby

Pupils at The Derby High School are 'inspired to make a difference' (Ofsted 2023). It is a huge privilege to be the Headteacher of The Derby High School. This is a place where all are ambitious for our young people and dedicated to providing them with opportunities like no other. We deliver exceptional curriculum and enrichment experiences with high quality teaching and learning in and beyond the classroom. We build meaningful relationships celebrating student achievements and there is an incredible sense of belonging and loyalty to our school. We offer work-based encounters, leadership roles and active citizenship within the community developing aspirations, character and a solid moral compass. Academic accomplishments are year-on-year the highest in Bury as measured by the exceptional progress made. Our students leave us happy, well-rounded and prepared for future success with memories that will last a lifetime.

In 2024 we received a national Secondary School of the Year Award acknowledging we are a school that makes a difference. We truly value our work with parents/carers, alumni, stakeholders and communities (locally, nationally and internationally) recognising the benefits this also brings to our young people. The Derby High School is truly a unique and special place and I am passionately committed to ensuring we continue to grow from strength to strength.

You are warmly welcome to visit and see our wonderful school for yourselves.

What we heard from others

What we heard

"From the bottom of my heart. I'd like to thank you all for accompanying me on this incredible journey this last 5 Years.

Whether it was a School Award, a place in our National Youth Parliament, or another performing arts triumph, you've always been there to cheer me on, to give me that sense of achievement and the opportunity to thrive and grow under your leadership ...

You have balanced the responsibility of your role so well, shaping the lives of so many. No wonder we have National School Awards!

... I must give a massive thank you to you all, not only have you revitalised my life, but so many others' lives along the way.

Thank you so, so much."

Alex, Class of 2025
