YEAR 11 PROGRESS – PARENTS’ EVENING
Updated Jan 15th 2021
As you will be aware there were serious problems with the virtual meeting system last night.
There is a statement from the provider SchoolCloud, below.
We at The Derby will do everything we can to make sure that your child’s teacher gets in touch with you over the course of the next two weeks.
Statement from SchoolCloud
“ SchoolCloud provides parents’ evening software to over 5,000 schools, and experienced an outage on 14th January affecting the parents & teachers accessing video calls at that time. An update to the system in December caused a web page to perform slowly and this ultimately took the system offline. This wasn’t up to the high standard of service that schools expect of us, nor that we expect of ourselves. We have already made changes, and continue to take further steps to ensure that you can continue to enjoy this new format of parents’ evenings.”
This is your invitation to the forthcoming VIRTUAL YEAR 11 PROGRESS – PARENTS’ EVENING, which will take place online on Thursday 14TH January, between 4.00pm and 7.00pm.
Due to Covid restrictions we will run this Year 11 Progress Parents’ Evening via a Video appointment system. You will not need to download any software or App.
These can be done over any phone, tablet, laptop etc and you won’t need to download any app or software. (We have been informed that those with iPhone/iPad running iOS 14.2 may experience some ‘audio ‘stutter/blips’ so Apple advise upgrading your iOS to 14.3 to avoid this.)
This evening will allow you the opportunity of discussing with your son/daughter’s subject teachers any queries you may have about progress. A Letter will also be sent to give you an insight into what we know regarding how grades may be awarded this year.
Some parents/carers have been given pre-booked appointments. These were emailed on Friday 8th January to their child. Please note that for these pre-booked appointments you must use the named parent/carer on those pre-booked appointments to set up and sign in to access these appointments when you get to this screen.
HOW TO MAKE /CHECK APPOINTMENTS
To make appointments or to check appointments you need to use the link at the bottom of this page.
You will be asked for some basic details in order to access the appointment page. Please note that you must use your child’s legal name (this would be the name you gave us when they started- rather than any preferred name they use now) when signing up for appointments. The email address can be any email address that you can access. Your schedule of appointments will be sent to that email address.
Appointments must be booked by 3.00pm on Thursday 14th January.
HOW TO START THE APPOINTMENTS ON THURSDAY 14TH
On Thursday evening you just need to sign back in using the same link at the bottom of the page and enter the same details that you signed up with. We would advise you to sign in in advance of your first appointment so that you can test the sound etc on your device.
As you can appreciate where some teachers teach more than one year 11 class, there might be limited free appointment slots available for those teachers as they get booked up by parents/carers. If you find that there are no appointment slots left and you still want to speak to that member of staff please contact the school and the subject teacher will make an alternative time to speak with you.
Each appointment is limited to 5 minutes and there will be a visible ‘countdown’ on the screen towards the end of the 5 minutes. Be aware that the appointment will end exactly at 5 minutes so it may seem abrupt.
We look forward to you joining us on Thursday 14th Jan 2021
